29er Downhill bikes were introduced to the world cup circuit by the Santa Cruz Syndicate in 2017. Since then many other brands have begun to explore the potential benefits of bigger wheels on race bikes. Doddy’s taking a look at a lot of the new 29er race bikes that we may see on the circuit this year!

Here’s a look at a lot of the familiar big wheeled downhill race machines including a few new additions to the squad! Norco have finally confirmed that their new Aurum HSP is out of the prototype stage with both a 29 inch and 27.5 version. Kona also announcing the that new Operator can fit both wheels making use of adjustable geometry and Devinci announcing a dedicated 29er option for their return to the worlc cup circuit with the new Unior tools team.
A few brands we know of have 29 DH bikes but weren’t on show at this year’s Sea Otter Classic. Scott have recently revealed their new prototype DH bike which appears to be running on 29 inch wheels. Saracen and Mondraker have a series of Myst’s which fit both too. Another brand in the rumour mill is GT with it’s prototype piloted by Wyn Masters. Specialized too had a Demo 29 last year which saw only a few practice runs and was never raced. Will we see more of that this year?
